April 12th 2007 one shrimp 4 fish

I had the pleasure of fishing with my good friend Bill today. We were expecting some stiff winds but never got them. We captured this beautiful sunrise as we turned in the narrows.

We had a dozen shrimp and took the first out of the bag and cut it into 4 pieces. Bill dropped down using a #2 circle hook with a 20-inch flora carbon leader and a ¼ oz egg weight. He was quickly on.

After several runs to the pier Bill bags a nice frying size redfish.

Bill grabbed the second piece of shrimp and wow two for two on the same shrimp.

Bill with a nice black drum.

Ok so what would the third piece of shrimp produce? Another nice black drum. Then Bill grabbed the last piece of the first shrimp and yes you guessed it on again!

Bill has a sheephead

Well we catch a couple of more sheephead and Spanish and end up with a nice stringer of fish for the frying pan.

Until our next fishing adventure…tight lines!

April 6th 2007

The wind howled all morning and finally started to slow some when Mike called and asked if I had the afternoon available for fishing. I told him I had canceled both of my trips for the day but the wind did look like it was calming some…lol. Mike said let’s go!

We went to the pass and started trolling speck rigs for Spanish. We had several hours of fishing and no strikes. The wind switched from the north to the northwest. It pick up to about 20 mph. We changed tactics and started trolling S25’s. On our first pass Mike is hooked up with what we hope is a BIG redfish.

Five minutes later I am netting a stud gag grouper at 11lbs.

Our next pass resulted in Russell bowed up with our second grouper.

We make three more passes and break off two more grouper.

Then the Spanish bite picks up and Mike is hooked up with a nice fish.

Now Jerald is the only angler without a fish but that ends pretty quickly once the Spanish bite started.

Not a big afternoon bite but we certainly did not get skunked!

Until our next fishing adventure…tight lines!

April 3rd 2007

I fished today with my new anglers Morgan (dad), son Greg and his friend Preston.

We started the day fishing the flats in hope of a nice gator trout on topwater. Here Greg and dad are working topwater chugbugs looking for their first explosion.

Greg has a nice explosion! After a good battle he boats this nice speck.

We started trolling speck rigs and dad quickly got hooked up with the first spanish of the day.

We spot some fish striking on top and Greg quickly gets bowed up with a very nice fish. It turns out to be a sailcat.

Greg and Preston are both bowed up with spanish.

We caught all the spanish we needed so we started sight fishing for schools of BIG BLUES. Here is a school in formation.

After sight fishing for BIG BLUES we decided to yet change gears again. I re-rigged the poles with #1/0 circle hooks, 17lb fluorocarbon leader 20 inches long with a one-ounce egg weight. We used cut shrimp as bait. We found our spot and began drifting. On our first drop we had a triple hook up on sheephead

We caught a dozen sheephead and decided to change gears one more time. I had dad rig up his fly rod with a white/green clouser minnow. We were headed back to the flats. A few casts later and dad had his first saltwater fish bowing his rod. A really nice Spanish!

Back at the dock we have a nice stinger of fish for a good ole fish fry.

Wow…one great day on the water!

Until our next fishing adventure…tight lines!

April 2nd 2007 a great ending to a great fishing adventure

April 3, 2007

Here is Bruce and Sandy. They are down for some relaxation and some fishing memories.

We start out cast topwater lures for some female specks early in the morning.

After a few casts and a couple of hook ups Sandy is showing off the first fish of the morning.

As quick as the speck bite turned on it turned off.

We picked up and headed to the pass. Set out a couple of speck rigs and started trolling. Here Sandy is ready for a strike.

It did not take long and Sandy was hooked up with this nice spanish.

We we ended the day with a stringer of 15 spanish kepted and 1 nice female speck. As we were coming trhought the north cut captain spotted a family of dolphins. We stopped and Sandy could not get to the gunnel fast enough to see these beautiful animals. Of course these animals could not get to the boat quick enough to see Sandy too!

Captain talks to an old friend.

See you later old friend!!

Wow what away to end a great fishing adventure…tight lines!

march 29th 2007 another day on the water for the boys!

April 2, 2007

We did an afternoon trip for spanish. My anglers were Tristan who says he never catches any fish. Trevor who is just glad to be on the boat. Sand bagger Mason and of course dad who made the trip possible.

We start real quick with Tristan hooking up before he could flip is bail.

Tristan put up a great battle and landed this spanish and removed a black cloud that had been following him for a while.

Mason and Trevor both ready to set the “HOOK”!

The sun is shining on Tristan today. Here he is with another spanish.

Trevor gets into the action as well.

Mason is fighting a spanish of his own and lands the fish.

Trevor catches this little squirrel fish while I was untangling some lines.

now a couple of Kodak moments to end the day.

Well these anglers kept 6 fish to have a taste of these great fighters they did battle with and to see what culinary delight they would bring to the table.

Until our next fishing adventure…tight lines!

march 27th 2007 Nick and dad are back for mor fishing adventures

Mark and son Nick brought their friend Tom and off we went in search of a good spanish bite. Well we arrived to find the Ospreys out looking for spanish too.

As we watched the ospreys searching for their food Nick did not take long and was fighting the first of many spanish.

Nick holding a nice 18″ spanish caught on a speck rig.

Tom struggled for awhile but finally got into the game with this nice spanish.

Mark spent alot of time taking pictures of both the fishing and the blue angles. Here he is fighting a nice spanish.

We had a fine stringer of fish for the fry daddy tonight.

march 23rd 2007 the ladies destroy the men at there own game.

Ok…we had Bart and Natalie and Tony and Jill. Now as we drifted a nice mud flat I found out real quick that there was plenty of competion between the two married couples. It was the “boys” against the “girls”. Now it seemed that the “boys” were beating up pretty bad the “girls” in all card and board games at home. Now if that was not bad both Bart and Tony took over the front of the boat for the fishing competion. Ok so lets see how this plays out.

Well here is Jill with the first of several nice specks. Girls one boys zero.

Now i believe the score is girls 3 and boys zero. Then Bart landes this nice flounder. Girls three boys one.

Wow here is Natalie with a whopper of a speck! Girls five boys one. Good thing the “boys” brought the “girls” or Bart would need to go to Joe Pattie’s for fresh fish.

Oh boy here is Jill with another nice speck. Girls six boys one.

Finally Bart with a speck. Girls six and boys two.

Bart with a redfish. Boys three and girls six. Boys making a come back and starting to talk trash.

Now we had not herd much out of Tony other than he is a funny guy. He said he had a few strikes but we never saw his pole bend. Then I called last cast and wouldn’t you know Tony is hooked up with his first fish of the day. Soon he had it in the boat. Boys four and Girls six.

A valent effort on the “boys” part but they come up short and the “girls” WIN!!!!

Until our next fishing adventure…tight lines!

march 26th 2007 a day on the water mith my yankee family from Wasaw Wisconsin

April 1, 2007

Well I had my redneck yankee family from Wasaw Wisconsin dig themselves out of 6 feet of snow just to come down and fish with me today. On the boat was Brad (dad) and his son Trevor. I started fishing with these two anglers 7 years ago. Trevor was only 7 and about half the size he is now. We got an early start and caught this sunrise as we rounded the narrows.

Out first stop was the FP pier. We saw plenty of fish but no takers. We then moved to the rocks and got a few hits and hung a couple but lost them. Then Brad caught this nice sheephead.

Trevor hooked up several fish but had the hook pull in everyone. Our bait was low and I told Trevor we had to change the size of his hook. I went from a #2 hook to a #1/0 hook. Yes you hear me correctly. Abigger hook. First drop down and Trevor caught this nice sheephead.

Well after Trevor caught this sheephead we did not get another bite. Hey Trevor could it have been like 7 years ago. Fish Finder showed two fish and after you and your cousin caught a fish each…no more fish on the screen….hmmmm?

Ok we rerigged tackle and placed speck rigs on and started trolling for spanish.

Trevor quickly got hooked up.

Trevor with a nice spanish for the fry daddy!

Ok Brad was getting alittle impaticent. Trevor was catching them pretty quick and pulling them over the gunnel. When BAM dad on!

Dad with his first of many this day.

Dad and Trevor with many doubles during the day.

Well it was a wonderful day. Good family on boat and plenty of fish. We released about 25 and kept enough for a good ole fish fry.

I sure hate momma Lisa and Molly were not on the boat to enjoy. Maybe next year.

Until our next fishing adventures…tight lines!
